MEMORY BYTES
Remember, Mickey, our Air Force Security dog school drop out?
Or collecting money every month for sponsoring a child in the Philippines through Save the
Children?
Driving Down to Oberammergau to pick up pool tables and other stuff for the Day room? (we had seven pool tables in the attic and a bunch of ugly curtains in the Attic after that trip.
Or refinishing the ballroom floor at the Wasserkuppe again in exchange for day room stuff?
(I think we got a fussball machine out of that deal)
I don't remember who helped me do that
Or all the items Budweiser sent us for the day room?

How about Sgt Jeter driving a 25 ton lowboy and tractor down to Rhine Main airbase
without a road clearance on a Sunday to pick up a car I had bought and then
being spotted by the  Bn Adjutant trying to get back on back roads?

I had gone down with a rented trailer to pick up this 1964 Jaguar MkIII sedan and
the trailer I took turned out to be too small.  I called Sgt Jeeter to see
if he knew of someone with a bigger trailer.  He said he did and would meet
me at the gate.  He shows up with one of our tractors.  This was oh sh_ _!
time. No road clearance, a Sunday and using a govt. vehicle for personal
business.  But the trailer was there so no point in sending it back empty.
So we loaded up the car and I mapped out a route for him to take back
avoiding the major roads. He was traveling down a farm road and the adjutant
happened to be fishing and spotted our truck. Monday morning I was in the Bn Cmdr's office.  Fortunately got off with a warning. - GAW

Here She is, the USS New York, made from the World Trade Center !
USS New York It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center . It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft. Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.' Ju nior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.' The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'
